The Morgan School is the public high school of Clinton, Connecticut, town of approximately 15,000, located on Long Island Sound. Clinton is influence by the close proximity of cultural centers. Moreover, its varied but moderate economic resources help create a student body that is diverse in its beliefs, attitudes, and aspirations.

Grading

A = 90 - 100

D = 60 - 69

B = 80 - 89

F = below 60

C = 70 - 79

 

The marking system uses letter grades.  Passing grade is D-(60).   College recommendation grade is B (83).

Leveling

Levels of difficulty are recommended for 1 of 3 levels (4 in mathematics) in each course. Courses are weighted according to difficulty level with exception of Physical Education and Health. On the transcript, the level is recorded to the right of course; H, indicates Honors, #1/CP is upper college preparatory level, #2 is a mid level, still college preparatory, #3 Career is the least demanding.

Class Rank

Rank is calculated cumulatively at the end of 6 semesters and again at the end of 7 semesters.

Calculation of a student's academic standing is based on the following equation:

Special Academic Programs

Honors Program:

Students may elect to take some honors courses or the program in its entirety. This is the most rigorous academic program offered. A special brochure is available which explains the structure of the Honors Program.

U.S. History, English, French, Physics, Biology, European History.

Tech-Prep Program

Students may earn college credit from the state community technical college system for successful completion of selected courses primarily in technology education, business education, and consumer education departments.

Feature of the Curriculum

Art

Provides a full and in-depth program for students interested in pursuing careers in art, as well as students interested in art.

Business

We offer two years of Accounting, Word Processing, Economics, Marketing, Sports Marketing, Personal Finance, and Intro to Business.

Computer

Four semesters of programming, Internet, Visual Basic C+ +, multimedia, as well as nine additional semester courses using application of software.

English

English IV is not offered as such. Instead there are eighteen different 1/2 year 1/2 credit electives. However, there is an Honors English IV.

World Language

Five years offered in French and Spanish.

Mathematics

In addition to the traditional Algebra I and II, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus; Probability and Statistics, Precalculus, Elementary Math Modeling and College Math Applied are offered.

Music

In addition to Band and Chorus (lessons given in both) we offer Musical Theater, Music Theory, Music Appreciation, History of Jazz and History of Pop/Rock.

Science

In addition to the traditional Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, we offer Integrated Science, Oceanology, Anatomy and Physiology, Earth/Space, and Environmental Science.

Social Studies

We The People (Civics) is for all freshmen. Six different 1/2 year 1/2 credit electives taken mainly by juniors and seniors. 1 credit must be of US History. Also, an Honors Philosophy elective for seniors.

Technology

The program of studies is built upon four areas of learning: communications, transportation, construction, and manufacturing.
