Financial Aid Night

The counselors at The Morgan School in Clinton are sponsoring a Financial Aid Workshop for Seniors, Juniors, and their parents.  The meeting will be held at The Morgan School Cafeteria at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 7, 2006.

In this time of escalating college costs, it is important for parents and students to understand all sources of financial aid available to them.  The program will focus on financing higher education.

The topics included in the talk will be: Purpose of financial aid; determining the cost of higher education; understanding need analysis; completing need analysis documents; explanation of financial programs; how to apply for financial aid; how financial aid awards are made.

The speaker will be Mr. Dominic Yoia, Sr. Director of Financial Aid at Quinnipiac University.  Mr. Yoia has worked in the field of student financial aid for 20 years.  He is the past president of the Connecticut Association of Professional Financial Aid Administrators (CAPFAA), has been a “Financial Aid Night” speaker for 5 years, and has presented a variety of topics on the state, regional and national levels.

The counselors and Mr. Yoia encourage parents and students to attend this important meeting and to come prepared to ask questions.

Mr. Yoia will explain the filing of the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA), which all colleges require to qualify for federal grant and loan money.  The FAFSA will be available that evening.  The FAFSA cannot be filed until after January 1, 2007.  The College Scholarship Service (CSS Profile) is required by some colleges and can be picked up in the Guidance Office.  The CSS Profile however can be filed now through the Spring time.

Anyone having questions about the meeting is asked to contact the counselors:    Ms. Marie Tramontana, Mrs. Janice O’Brien, or Mr. Daniel Picchioni at 664-6544.
