Docent Training Session - Salt Marsh
2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Meigs Point Nature Center, Hammonasset Beach State Park, Madison, CT No charge.Meigs Point Nature Center, at Hammonasset Beach State Park, Madison, CT, needs docents to help the center's staff teach school children about the Park's habitat and indigenous wildlife. An average of 100 students make field trips to the MPNC each weekday during the spring and fall seasons. The Center's environmental education programs, which are offered during the school year and during some public school vacations, supplement classroom learning under the state's first- through seventh-grade science curriculum. The programs are led by the Center's Director, Ranger Russ Miller, part-time seasonal staff and volunteer docents. Modules are presented in 20- to 30-minute sessions during student visits, usually on weekday mornings. Anyone interested in becoming a docent, volunteering at the Nature Center, or simply learning more about the Park can attend the training sessions.
